Broken Ankle Blues

IMG_0271_edited-1.jpg

Happy Spring Everyone!

I've been seriously short on free time over the last month and a half. My Mother-in-law (age 56) passed away suddenly about a month ago. And I'm laid up on the couch with a broken ankle as I am typing this.

I was stacking hay on Friday and stepped back to heave a bale up on the 5th row and my left foot went through a rat tunnel in the dirt floor. I of course went over backwards with the bale of hay. Fun times! So I have broken my fibula. I hate hay stacking with a passion now. And I'm stuck in the house with my leg elevated above my heart.

The bright side of this is that I can finally get to posting some of my winter photos and maybe learn Photoshop while I'm down. And definitely catch up on my blog reading. I've been reading along on my mobile but it's hard to post comments from it. See you at your blogs soon folks!

Oh that is so terrible, but I am glad to know that it wasn't any worse then it is.

Heal quickly, and yes, take the time to catch up with everything.

We want you to be out there in the spring sunshine as soon as you can.

Sorry Tami. That is an intense face on Jack Russell, what is her name?

Emily sprained her ankle about 5 weeks ago and she is still having pain. She said she is NOT going to have surgery because she can has to finish Nursing School and with about 2 months to go she is not stopping now.

Is that Clarice? I knew Charlotte from her adventures..

Thanks Jen! It's not fun being stuck in and on the couch while everyone is out gardening and taking pictures (and digging trees) and I'm stuck in w/my computer.

BUT

I'm happy for the chance to slow down and catch up! So I'm going to have to just take it as it comes. Good lesson for me.

Claudia! Hello! Yes that is Clarice. She is such a cutie...she has switched laps to mine since friday. She is a bit concerned about me being laid up.

I have to meet w/the ortho tomorrow...cross your fingers...I'm hoping that this sucker will heal up on it's own. I'm following orders to a T!

You have my sincere condolences on the loss of your mother-in-law. She died so young. It is said that when it rains it pours. So it seems with you. I'm sorry that you broke your ankle. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Clarice looks like she would rather you look at her than the newspaper.

Sorry for your loss.

Any thing to get out of stacking hay, right?

Oh now! I wish you a speedy recovery. I've fallen partially through a hayloft floor and it's not fun. Love your photos.

I was wondering what happened to you. Getting inured or ill is never nice, but it does gve you time to relax and do some things you don't always have time for. Iamlooking forward to see some more winter pics.

Hi Tami, Good to hear from you, I am sorry to hear of your Mother In Laws death..56 is so young ( well when you are older than that..it seems young! )
Your ankle must be going to be okay..if you are not in excruciating pain..you must be casted or at the least splinted. Yes keep it elevated!! I broke mine back in 1979..no fun..so I can sympathize with you..no computers back then..I read and learned how to crochet, and invented ways to do laundry, clean house, cook and care for a 4 year old and a 7 year old...thank goodness they weren't babies I had to carry. Don't lean on the crutches..later in life it will cause havoc with your rotator cuffs. Broken Ankles really suck. :(

Tami, I saw something on Twitter but wasn't sure if you were serious or not. I've been the victim of a broken ankle. I was 12, and we went to Florida, and I couldn't join the others who were swimming in the ocean. I will never forget the injustice of a broken ankle in Florida! But you have not lost your knack for taking awesome photos. Good luck in the recovery!

Linda....Clarice is the easiest subject in the world to photograph...she is always lookin' cute and very inquisitive.

Awwww Jami....thanks!

Farside...I will take all advice given. The crutches totally suck. I am wrapped and aircast...swelled up like a grapefruit and my entire lower leg is some really bizarre colors. It feels wretched...but either my pain tolerance is improving or it's mending and the pain is reducing.

Thanks Roxanne! I was just bemoaning my broken ankle to my Sisterella today.... But I'm sure glad I never had a broken extremity ruin a family beach vacation. Yikes!

WW ... Hubby seems to be getting along ok. I'm going to do a post about Betsy and I'm getting close to it. Blogging is hard sometimes because there is so much I want to share but feel like I have to watch out for family members feelings.

But were getting close to it I think.

Sarah....and all's it took was a broken ankle. (sigh) Guess it's time to sloooow down and enjoy life. My lesson learned.

Uffda..hope you can escape surgery..mine looked like an elephants foot.. remember if you don't do stairs well on crutches..then do them sitting down..you can't fall if you are already on the ground..an old apron works well with pockets to carry stuff around..I am glad the pain is tolerable. Hang in there:)

Tami said...

FarSide... "you can't fall if your already on the ground" that put a smile on my face!

Apron is a GREAT idea!!!

Thanks!
